12 new 4-H Hall of Fame members feted at ceremony

(Distributed 08/20/10) MANSURA, La. – A dozen new members of the Louisiana 4-H Hall of Fame were recognized at a ceremony Aug. 11 at the Louisiana 4-H Museum here for their years of service to 4-H clubs across the state.

The Jefferson Davis and Lafayette Parish 4-H Jr. Leaders were awarded for their work throughout the 2009-2010 school year with a trip to San Antoino, Texas, from July 12-15, 2010. Jr. Leaders are involved in 4-H service projects in their parishes and assist 4-H events throughout the year to be able to attend the awards trip. The trip and volunteer service project were coordinated by 4-H agents Nikki Mouch from Lafayette and Kori Myers from Jefferson Davis.

(Distributed 06/29/10) Twenty-one 4-H students from across Louisiana spent two days in June learning to prepare and present shrimp dishes as practice for national competition at the Great American Seafood Cook-off in New Orleans in August. The youth were part of a new educational track during 4-H University on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge, June 22-25, called the Next 4-H Food Star.

(Distributed 06/28/10) BATON ROUGE, La. – Hundreds of Louisiana youth took home honors as state contest winners and alternates during the 96th annual 4-H University June 22-25 on the LSU campus. All together nearly 1,550 4-H’ers participated in the event, which is the culmination of a year of activities in the LSU AgCenter’s 4-H youth development program.

Each year the LSU Athletic Department offers the 4-H program an opportunity to participate in an LSU football game. These tickets can be purchased by 4-H members, their families, volunteers, and any LSU AgCenter employee.
